Just for the records, so that I have it written somewhere. I really dislike articles that touch on the subject in the title, where the first half of the content is about anything but the subject. An introduction is welcomed, but let’s keep it shortened, here is mine.

Although not that shiny in terms of visual appearance when it comes to at least the content posted by users, like many other social networking sites, I really don’t think Twitter requires an introduction unless someone lives under a rock. And, there is no excuse even if you are under 18.

If you tweet, do users engage with your tweets?

For the purpose of writing this article, I’ll just pass to the point. A very simple question, if you tweet, do users engage with your tweets?

User interaction with a tweet is actually a form of engagement, clicks anywhere on the tweet, including retweets, replies, follows, likes, links, cards, hashtags, embedded media, username, profile photo, or tweet expansion. I’m pretty sure users engage with your tweets, the question is what type and how many engagements your tweets get.

My own finding on how users engage with my tweets

I tweet too and engage with other users’ tweets. This is where we come to my finding I’d like to share.

There is a website, a project I’m working on for quite a few years now. I’ll skip further introduction into the mentioned project as I deem it as irrelevant for the subject of this article. That website has just recently been enhanced with content translated into Italian.

In order to promote Italian content, I’ve created a Twitter account and started to tweet.

Of course, everything about the account is Italian as I target the Italian audience. However,  there is really no need to go into details such as what is the tweet content, how it is formatted, and/or at what time of the day I tweet. This article is just about the number of engagements my tweets get in relation to the number of users’ views.

Let’s get down to the numbers. These are results for the period of DEC 1st – JAN 10th (41 days)

The total number of:

  • Tweets: 45
  • Engagements: 14
  • Clicks: 4
  • Tweet expansion: 6
  • Retweet: 1
  • Click on media: 1

Nothing fabulous in any sense

As numbers show it, nothing fabulous in any sense. Now, what’s interesting, at least from my point of view, all my tweets have an invitation link to check the content on the website but apparently, users were almost not interested to engage that way and click on it. I’ve honestly expected more clicks and I’ve counted on at least the human curiosity but looking now at the statistics I’ve proved myself wrong.

I don’t know, perhaps my tweets are too clear about what users can expect and they were not interested at all, or perhaps Italian users just don’t like to engage and click on a link at least for the sake of human curiosity.

So, that’s it, please feel free to use the comments section below to share your thoughts.
